About xWave Technologies

xWave is building a diagnostic intelligence and operating platform to ensure every patient gets the best test first. Our technology connects clinical decision support, intelligent ordering, workflow automation and diagnostic data to improve patient outcomes, reduce unnecessary testing and make better use of healthcare capacity.

Working across the NHS and other health systems, xWave is expanding from radiology into pathology and other diagnostic specialties, supporting the complete journey from referral through to testing and outcomes.

xWave currently generates > €2m in annual recurring revenue and is targeting growing this to €15m+ in 3 years. There is a current team of 13 supported by external consultants across that a flexed up and down subject to business need.

Role

As Financial Controller, you will play a key role within the senior management team, partnering closely with the CEO and C-suite team. You will take ownership of the financial operations across the business, ensuring robust reporting, strong controls, and insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making. A core purpose of the role is to take end-to-end ownership of xWave’s finance function, removing day-to-day financial administration and reporting from the CEO.

Currently the business’s finances are managed through a combination of outsourced finance, payroll and tax processing with Kinore and external consultant support, with additional Board direct involvement in certain areas. As the business expands some of this outsourced activity may be taken back in-house and as the first finance hire in the business you will have the direct opportunity to shape the finance function as it grows.

Initially the role would be for 3-4 days per week for the first 12 months, the company is flexible on increasing that beyond this period or maintaining this level in conjunction with an expansion of the team as the business grows.  

Key responsibilities include:

The below lists a number of key responsibilities -  ultimately xWave is seeking a highly motived individual to own all financial aspects and support the commercial growth of the business.

• Producing timely monthly management accounts and Board reporting, covering actuals, forecasts, cash, runway, revenue performance, balance sheet reviews and key variances

• Leading the financial aspects of the investor reporting process (quarterly reporting and annual meeting) and co-ordinating input from other parts of the business

• Owning budgeting, financial planning and cash flow management, including a rolling cash flow forecast, longer-term runway model and proactive reporting of funding requirements and financial risks

• Oversight of all contract performance and ownership of revenue and cost of sale recognition processes

• Owning the process from signed contract and purchase order through invoicing, revenue recognition, cash collection and aged debtor management, as well as accounts payable and payroll functions

• Enhancing and maintaining strong financial controls, policies, and compliance frameworks (including multi-jurisdiction VAT and duty)

• Partnering with sales and operational teams to support business performance, pricing decisions and other initiatives

• Contributing to strategic initiatives, financial modelling, investment decisions, corporate actions and fundraising

• Supporting and managing all fundraising initiatives

• Preparation of materials for the Board and shareholder/investor communications

• Implementing corporate structuring changes as needed as xWave expands into new markets

• Supporting and leading engagement with insurers, pension providers, accounting, tax, and external advisor relationships (the company is not currently subject to external audit)

• Supporting the corporate and financial aspects of the company’s ISO, regulatory and certification processes.

This role offers a clear progression path to Finance Director for the right candidate as the business expands, with the potential for broader leadership exposure over time.

Key requirements

• Self-starter who can use their own initiative to deliver the key responsibly above as the business continues to grow

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA) with a relevant degree

• Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a similar finance leadership role

• Experience in a recurring-revenue, technology or similarly contract-led high-growth business, including building or professionalising a finance function

• Strong technical expertise across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and costing

• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and support strategic decisions

• Excellent analytical skills and high attention to detail

• Advanced financial IT skills and experience with financial systems

• A hands-on, proactive approach with the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
